Citizens Police Academy
The Port St. Lucie Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is a key component of our community-oriented policing philosophy. This free program offers city residents a behind-the-scenes look at their police department through demonstrations, lectures, and discussions.
Each session is led by experts in various fields, allowing participants to engage with representatives from the Command Staff, Neighborhood Policing Bureau, Criminal Investigations Division, Support Services, and specialty units like the Special Response Team and K-9.
The Citizens Police Academy has successfully bridged the gap between police and the community, fostering teamwork to maintain a high quality of life in Port St. Lucie. The academy is offered annually and includes 50 hours of instruction over eight weeks, with classes held two evenings per week.
To date, over 28 academy classes have been conducted with more than 400 graduates. Many graduates become active volunteers within the police department, while others return to their community as well-informed supporters of the agency’s mission. Join us to learn more about your police department and how we work to serve and protect our community.
